John Calvin Golladay
18th Virginia Cavalry
Company D (Capt. Wesley Makely's Co)

Son of Jacob Golladay and Catherine Clem
Husband of Melissa Caldone Brimer

John was living in Jefferson County, Tennessee at the start of the Civil War and he was not married.

He returned to his native state of Virginia to enlist in the Confederate Army at Berryville on 24 September 1862. He was 5' 11" in height with dark complexion, hazel eyes, and light hair.

John was absent sick with leave from January to October of 1864.

He was paroled on 20 April 1865 at Winchester, Virginia.

Broken in health after the rigors of Army life, he spent two years in Colorado in the early seventies, there regaining his health.

He returned to Tennessee where he was united in marriage to Melissa C. Brimer, to which unto there were born seven children, two of whom died in early childhood. He moved with his family to Wamego in 1885, where he spent the reminder of his life.

Mr. Golladay had been in poor health for over a year, but no one thought that the end was so near. He had seemed in unusual good health and spirits and after visiting with friends downtown, had returned home and had laid down for a short rest and was awaiting the arrival of his daughter , Mrs. P. L. Fish, of Los Angles, on the 8:15 train, when the end came peacefully as he had often wished it, as he had said that he had no fear and was prepared and had his peace with God.
