Perry was married with two children when he enlisted on 18 May 1861. His height was listed as 5' 8".

Perry was shown absent without leave on 01 September 1862. He evidently did return home for a while as he had a son, Jacob P. Golladay, who was born in July 1863.

He re-enlisted at Edinburg on 11 March 1863 as a Wagoner in Chews Artillery.

Perry was 63 years old and living at Hupp in Rockingham County when he filed a pension application of 14 May 1900. He stated his disabilities as "infirmities of age and by being permanently disabled in the left hand and wrist by accident & kidney trouble."
 

   Buried at: Concord Lutheran Church cemetery, Timberville, Virginia
