George was single when he enlisted in the militia on 05 July 1861 at Woodstock,
Virginia.
His height was 5' 10".
George was shown absent without leave on 06 October 1861, but he
reenlisted on 24 March 1862 in the infantry.
George was captured along with most of the Stonewall Brigade at the
Battle of Spotsylvania on 12 May 1864. He was sent as a prisoner of war to Fort Delaware.
He remained in prison for the reminder of the war and was paroled on 15 June 1865.
George married Mary Ann Golladay on 02 February 1873. Mary
Ann apparently died, as George got remarried on 30 April 1874 to Isabella Coverstone
in Powell's Fort Valley.
George died of heart trouble on 08 August 1911. George's second
wife Isabella filed a pension application based on his Civil War service.
