George was single when he enlisted in the Confederate Army on 01 Aug 1862 in Chattanooga, Tennessee. On 04 May 1865, he surrendered with his unit at Citronelle, Alabama.

After the war, George was a merchant and owned a dry goods store. He married Davidella Golladay in 1866. After Davidella died in 1891, George briefly moved to Memphis. He then settled in Como, Mississippi and got married again to Anne Pointer.

George died of pneumonia at the ripe old age of 94.
