Thomas enlisted on 18 June 1861 as a Corporal. He was promoted
to 3rd Lieutenant on 29 August 1861 and 2nd Lieutenant on 22 April 1862. He was
shown on all muster rolls until 31 December 1863, which was the last recorded
entry.
Thomas was wounded at Spotsylvania on 12 May 1864 and taken prisoner of war
along with most of the Stonewall Brigade at the Battle of Spotsylvania.
Thomas married Francis in July 1865.
Thomas died of pneumonia on 10 January 1918. On 07 September
1918, his wife Francis was living in Woodstock when she filed a pension application based on his Civil War
service. This pension application states Thomas's date of death as 1918, although his
tombstone inscription says his date of death was 10 January 1917.
