Son of Cyrus Golladay and Mary Pearson

Strother was not married when he enlisted on 18 May 1861 at Woodstock. He was listed as 6' 0" tall with dark complexion, blue eyes, and brown hair.

He was absent without leave on 30 Aug 1861, but returned on 16 Oct 1861. He was listed as a deserter on 22 May 1862. However, Strother then reenlisted in the cavalry on 01 Sep 1862 at Woodstock.

He was present in September and October 1863, but absent to due sickness in November and December 1863. Strother had typhoid fever during the war. He was listed at present until 31 August 1864, then he was listed as absent without leave.

Strother married Mary Ellen Simmons after the war on 26 December 1865. He worked as a farmer.

Strother was 71 years old and living at Middletown in Frederick County when he filed a pension application in July 1909. He stated his disability was caused by a fall from a hay mower which damaged his shoulder. This injury prevented him from using his arm.
