THE MYSTERY OF THE GOLLADAY GRAVES IN GRENADA, MISSISSIPPI

The graves of George S. Golladay and his wife Martha seem to have vanished. George was near the peak of his wealth in 1858 when his little daughter Medora died. Her grave was surely marked with a monument and undoubtedly her parents were buried beside Medora. The question is: where are these graves?

Davidella (Golladay) Lake and the other Golladay children are buried in marked graves in the Odd Fellows cemetery in Grenada, but their parents are not buried near them.

The only clue to the missing graves is from an article in the Grenada newspaper. This article states that George was living in Memphis at the time of his death, but:

"His body was returned to Grenada and he was buried in the old cemetery on Pine Hill beside his first wife and many other members of his family."

Grenada Daily Sentinel Star (October 03, 1955)

Have the Golladay grave markers been destroyed? Are these missing graves in heavily wooded area and long since forgotten? The Golladay family was a prominent family in the history of Grenada, but for now the final resting place of this family is a mystery that remains to be solved.
