Wolves were a threat to the settlers in Shenandoah Valley. They killed livestock
and were even a danger to the early settlers.
The last wolf killed in the Fort (Valley) was
encountered about 1856, when Abraham Burner and
Ephraim Golladay dispatched a large wolf on the mountain near
Habron Gap. There were several others, but they left and were never seen
again.
