Major was born in Robertson County, Tennessee. His height was listed as 5' 10" and he was 33 years old when he enlisted at Clarksville, Tennessee on 30 October 1863.

Major was wounded in battle on 16 December 1864 and he died at the Cumberland Hospital in Nashville in 1865.

 

 

Major's monument and the cemetery records spell Major's last name as "Galladay." Others records indicate the spelling of Golladay or Golliday.
